Here are some prompts I’ve used in class (in 10-minute prompted writing sessions at the beginning of class) and as homework “invitations.” The writers in my classes read their work aloud — both the in-class and the more considered pieces from home.

Anyone can opt out of reading in-class work if it is too personal, but they do share what comes from home. I do the in-class writing with them and share what I write.
